I provide a range of parent-centered services, including availability to lead the following educational lecture-seminars:

Structure for a Great Summer

Does your child want to “hang out” indoors watching movies or eating junk food all summer? Explore the intersection of structure and freedom when parenting children, tweens, and adolescents over the summer months. How much time should you allow your child to play, relax and socialize vs. participate in family activities, chores, or work opportunities?

Learn how to use your child or adolescent’s strengths to offer the most autonomy while also maintaining enough structure to support their safety and growth. Leave armed with new information and parenting skills for a great summer.

Recently, Lana presented Structure for a Great Summer at Denver Academy on Thursday, May 7, 8:30-9:30 am.

Parenting the Plugged In Teen

How can parents make informed decisions about technology? How much is too much, and how do parents teach responsible and balanced use. This interactive seminar explores practices advised by child experts, then teaches you how to devise your own technology plan. Parents will learn: how to develop an organized and realistic tech plan, how to deal with resistance to limits on tech use, how to balance an adolescent’s needs for autonomy with your obligation to ensure safety and personal development, and how to administer a tech plan consistent with your core parenting values.

Recently, Lana presented Parenting the Plugged In Teen at Denver Academy’s Symposium on Teaching and Learning, The Reading Brain in the Digital Age. Friday, March 6 at 8:30 am-3:30 pm. For more information: denveracademy.org.

Adolescent Rebellion: Debunking Normal and Understanding Healthy

This seminar explores the parenting challenges of adolescent behavior ranging from moodiness to rebellion to substance use. What is the difference between “normal” and unhealthy or dangerous adolescent behavior? How can parents respond in a way that encourages personal growth, safety, and good judgment? Learn how to handle these difficult issues with your adolescent while preserving your sanity.

Lana most recently presented Adolescent Rebellion at Denver Academy’s February Parent Seminar Series on Monday, February 9, 2015, 8:30-9:30am.
